Keeping the power flow safe during the heatwave

In recent days, prolonged hot weather has driven electricity demand sharply higher, particularly during peak hours. To ensure a stable power supply for both daily life and production activities, electricity sector workers have continued working tirelessly in the field despite harsh conditions. At the same time, public awareness campaigns on safe and energy-efficient electricity use are being intensified to reduce the risk of electrical fires and accidents during the hot season.

From morning until late evening, electrical appliances such as air conditioners, electric fans, refrigerators, and electric cookers operate continuously to help households cope with the heat. In many homes, the simultaneous use of multiple high-power devices increases the risk of overloading electrical systems and causing short circuits or fires if electricity is not used properly.

Mr. Duong Dinh Phuc, resident of Doan Ket Hamlet, Tan Khanh Commune, Thai Nguyen Province, shared: "Evening hours are peak-demand periods. We should prioritize electricity for essential needs such as cooking and limit the use of unnecessary lighting and other non-essential electrical devices".

In response to rising electricity loads, the power sector has stepped up efforts to promote safe and energy-efficient electricity use. At the same time, power companies are inspecting the grid and monitoring locations at risk of overload to minimize disruptions during periods of extreme heat.

Mr. Hoang Dinh Thao, Head of Pac Nam Power Unit, Thai Nguyen Power Company, said: "Pac Nam Power Unit works with local authorities to organize awareness sessions for village leaders on safe and efficient electricity use. We also provide guidance to residents in newly electrified areas on how to use electricity safely and economically".

Behind the reliable electricity supply serving local communities is the dedication of power workers who remain on duty around the clock. At noon, with outdoor temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius, workers continue carrying out equipment maintenance and replacement on utility poles dozens of meters high to ensure uninterrupted electricity service.

During the current heatwave, the hotline maintenance team has played a particularly important role in maintaining continuous power supply. Unlike traditional repair methods that require power outages, hotline crews perform maintenance directly on energized power lines using specialized equipment and strictly controlled technical procedures.

Mr. Vu Duy Bao, leader of the Hotline Team, Thai Nguyen Power Company, stressed: "To ensure the safety of our workers and compliance with the company’s safety regulations, all team members strictly follow approved procedures. Working under extreme heat requires a high level of concentration and discipline throughout the operation".

Hot weather is likely to continue, and electricity demand is forecast to remain high. Alongside the power sector’s efforts to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the electricity system, residents are encouraged to use electricity safely and efficiently to reduce the risk of overloads and electrical fires, while helping ease pressure on the power grid during the peak summer season.
