Every ethnic group has its own unique cultural identity, reflected in its language, customs, festivals, and traditional attire. For the San Diu community in Thai Nguyen Province, traditional costume is more than everyday clothing. It is a symbol of their roots, showcasing the skill, diligence, and cultural values passed down from generation to generation. In today's modern society, the San Diu community is making concerted efforts to preserve and promote this cultural heritage.

| Today, traditional San Diu clothing is machine-sewn, but the decorative patterns are still handcrafted by San Diu women. |
For generations, San Diu traditional costumes have been entirely handmade by women. The fabric is dyed with indigo, then cut, sewn, and decorated according to traditional standards, creating a simple yet elegant appearance. A traditional San Diu women's outfit consists of a black headscarf, a long black tunic with narrow white trim, a red bib, a multicolored sash, an indigo skirt, leg wraps, and silver jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and accessories. Every detail carries its own meaning and contributes to the distinctive cultural identity of the San Diu people.
Mrs. Luu Thi Moi in Bo Suoi Hamlet, Nam Hoa Commune, shared: "We make the costumes ourselves, sewing and decorating them with our traditional patterns. Younger people still wear the traditional leg wraps, while older people who can no longer wrap them wear white socks instead".
Unlike the colorful and elaborate costumes of some other ethnic groups, San Diu traditional attire is admired for its simplicity, harmony and practicality in daily life and work. This understated beauty reflects the honest and humble way of life of the San Diu people. Traditional costumes also vary from one locality to another in terms of design, color combinations, and accessories, adding further richness to the community's cultural heritage.
Mrs. Tran Thi Lap in Bo Suoi Hamlet, Nam Hoa Commune, said: "The San Diu costume in Thai Nguyen is different from those in other places. For example, San Diu people in Vinh Phuc wear a white bib, while in Thai Nguyen we wear a red one".
In the past, every traditional costume was meticulously sewn entirely by hand. Today, many stages of the process are assisted by sewing machines. However, producing an authentic San Diu costume still requires considerable skill and craftsmanship, especially in pleating the skirt and combining the traditional design elements.
Nowadays, the San Diu people mainly wear their traditional attire during festivals, community cultural events, and other important local occasions. This not only helps preserve their cultural heritage but also inspires younger generations to appreciate and take pride in their ethnic identity.
