Launching National Week for Disaster Prevention and Control 2026

On May 16, at Chu Van An Secondary School, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Viet Nam, and the Australian Embassy in Viet Nam, held a rally to launch the National Week for Disaster Prevention and Control 2026.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan - Vice Chairwoman of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee, Ms. Ramla Khalidi - UNDP Resident Representative in Viet Nam, along with more than 1,200 teachers and students, attended the event.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in 2025, natural disasters caused 484 deaths and missing persons, with economic losses exceeding VND 104 trillion. In Thai Nguyen Province alone, major floods during the 2024–2025 period also had a serious impact on residents’ lives.

In their remarks, delegates emphasized the need to strengthen disaster prevention capacity, proactively manage risks, and enhance community resilience against natural disasters.

Within the framework of the program, many activities were held, including the award ceremony for the contest “School Ambassadors: Prepared for Disasters, Building a Sustainable Future”; the presentation of certificates to students participating in the painting activity “Ready for Natural Disasters and Climate Change”; the awarding of prizes for the art contest “Perspectives on Natural Disasters”; as well as exchanges with primary school students who won prizes in drawing and mural painting contests, the “Ring the Golden Bell” quiz, and other communication activities on disaster prevention and climate change adaptation.
