On the evening of May 13, the football atmosphere in Thai Nguyen truly came alive with the opening ceremony of the 2026 National Women’s Football Cup. The event was attended by Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan, Chairman of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee, leaders from the Sports Authority and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), as well as representatives of relevant departments and agencies. The tournament attracted strong interest from football fans and media organizations.

This year’s competition brings together six of the country’s top women’s teams. The teams are divided into two groups and will play a single round-robin format to select the semifinalists. Group A includes host Thai Nguyen T&T, Hanoi II, and Phong Phu Ha Nam. Group B features reigning champion Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi I, and Than Khoang San Vietnam.
Hosting the 2026 National Women’s Football Cup for the first time, taking place from May 13 to 27, Thai Nguyen is affirming strong progress in professionalizing elite sports. Notably, the tournament coincides with the opening of the tourism season themed “Lake on the Mountain – Tea in the Clouds,” serving as a key highlight that helps portray Thai Nguyen as a dynamic province making strong breakthroughs in many fields.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, host Thai Nguyen T&T played their first match against Hanoi II, securing an overwhelming 8-0 victory.
