Research and planning for an urban railway connecting Thai Nguyen with Hanoi

A delegation from the Ministry of Construction, led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy, recently worked with Thai Nguyen Province on the detailed planning of an urban railway connecting central Thai Nguyen Province with Hanoi.

Under the proposed plan, the urban railway would connect Trung Gia Station in Hanoi with Pho Yen, Song Cong, Luu Xa and Dong Quang stations, as well as several new urban centers in the province.

The Deputy Minister of Construction said Thai Nguyen is a satellite urban area of Hanoi and should capitalize on its location and strengthen connectivity with the capital. Therefore, the province needs to soon study and implement the detailed planning and reach agreement with Hanoi on investment mechanisms. The planning should take into account economic growth potential and population distribution, clarify the legal basis, and reconsider the scope and boundaries of the central urban area.

The study should aim to develop an urban space of an appropriate scale, connect growth poles, and develop urban and service areas associated with railway stations. In particular, coordination between Thai Nguyen and Hanoi must be ensured, connecting the role of Hanoi as the core with its satellite urban areas.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee Trinh Xuan Truong asked the Provincial People's Committee to strengthen coordination with localities including Hanoi, Bac Ninh and Phu Tho to reach agreement on connectivity plans. In particular, Hanoi's investment in and connection of the railway line to Trung Gia Station will be important to the province's railway development plan. The province will also accelerate the planning process to provide a basis for the next steps, with the goal of starting construction during the current term of the provincial Party Committee.
