'Green Saturdays' movement maintained in residential areas

More than two months after its launch, the “Green Saturday” initiative in residential areas has gone beyond one-off community campaigns and is gradually becoming a regular activity. Depending on their work and daily routines, residents choose suitable days to clean village roads and alleys, collect waste, care for trees, and help maintain a clean environment.

In Khau Chu Hamlet, Bach Thong Commune, environmental sanitation activities are regularly carried out by residents. The activities do not necessarily take place on a fixed day. Instead, residents agree to choose a suitable Saturday or Sunday to participate. They work together to sweep village roads, clear overgrown vegetation, collect waste, and improve public areas.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Chuc, Head of Khau Chu Hamlet, Bach Thong Commune, shared: “We have been carrying out the ‘Green Saturday’ program since May, on Saturdays or Sundays that are convenient for local residents. The program has helped keep our village roads green and clean and made travel more convenient. The residents have responded very positively to the program.”

Following the launch of the “Green Saturday” initiative, environmental sanitation activities have been regularly maintained in residential areas, in accordance with the actual conditions of each village. This is gradually fostering a sense of voluntary responsibility among residents, making environmental hygiene and landscape preservation a shared responsibility of the community.

Mrs. Chu Thi Dieu in Ban Chang Hamlet, Ngan Son Commune, said: “We continue to encourage residents to maintain the results achieved through the Green Saturdays, keep taking care of the trees, keep the village roads clean, and come together on Saturdays as scheduled.”

For localities that are gradually completing the criteria for new-style rural development, maintaining “Green Saturday” is a way to mobilize local resources, starting with practical activities closely connected to people's daily lives.

Mrs. Duong Thi Phuong Que, Chairwoman of Ngan Son Commune People's Committee, said: “The commune works closely with the hamlets to mobilize residents to take part in ‘Green Saturday.’ We have established a steering committee and receive regular reports from the hamlets. At the same time, we raise awareness and encourage residents to donate land and relocate livestock facilities, creating favorable conditions for the program to be carried out effectively.”

By being maintained regularly through the responsibility and voluntary participation of local residents, “Green Saturday” is contributing to greener, cleaner, and more attractive residential areas and a more civilized rural landscape.
