Military Region 1 receives title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces

On the morning of April 12, Military Region 1 solemnly held a ceremony to receive the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces. General Secretary and President To Lam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, and Commander-in-Chief of the People’s Armed Forces, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Over more than 80 years of building, fighting, and growing, the armed forces of Military Region 1 – Viet Bac have continuously developed and achieved many exceptionally outstanding feats, making important contributions to the cause of national liberation, national reunification, and the defense of the Fatherland.

From the Viet Bac revolutionary base area, the birthplace of the revolutionary armed forces, Military Region 1, together with the army and people nationwide, achieved historic victories in the resistance wars against French colonialists and the US imperialists, notably contributing to the Great Victory of Spring 1975.

In peacetime, the armed forces of the Military Region have continued to play a core role in building a strong all-people national defense, consolidating defensive zones, and maintaining political security and social order and safety in this strategic area.

At the same time, they have actively participated in disaster and epidemic prevention and control, as well as search and rescue operations.

Presenting the prestigious title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces to the armed forces of Military Region 1, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that, in response to the requirements of safeguarding the Fatherland in the new situation, Military Region 1 needs to further enhance its overall quality and combat strength; proactively grasp the situation and effectively handle contingencies. In addition, it should focus on building an “elite, efficient, and strong” force, moving toward modernization, to meet the requirements of defending the Fatherland under all circumstances.
