The “three-way partnership” between the government, research and educational institutions, and businesses is an important solution to promote research, technology application and innovation. Thai Nguyen is gradually strengthening this cooperation mechanism to bring research results into practice and create new drivers for growth.
Thai Nguyen Province has collaborated with numerous research institutes and universities to carry out research projects and apply science and technology to production and everyday life.
To promote “three-way” cooperation models and develop an innovation ecosystem, Thai Nguyen has strengthened links among government agencies, research and educational institutions, and businesses. Several cooperation models have been established in research, technology application and transfer.
A notable example came in May, when Thai Nguyen province and Thai Nguyen University signed a cooperation agreement for the 2026–2030 period and announced the establishment of the Regional Innovation Center.
The establishment of the Regional Innovation Center is not only a symbolic project but also a hub for knowledge, technology, talent, and aspirations for development in the new era.
Associate Professor Phung Trung Nghia, Rector of the University of Information and Communication Technology, Thai Nguyen University said: “We hope to receive continued support from the provincial authorities, particularly in connecting us with the business community. This will help maximize the strengths of all three parties, with businesses playing an important role in identifying practical needs and ensuring that research results can be effectively applied in practice”
To put policies on promoting the “three-way partnership” into practice, the province has worked with research institutes and universities to carry out scientific research projects and apply science and technology in production and daily life.
The main areas include tea production, medicinal plants, biotechnology and the preservation of local genetic resources. In 2026 alone, the province approved 35 provincial-level science and technology tasks. All of them have clearly identified applications and specific products, with participation from all three parties.
Associate Professor Nguyen Hung Quang, Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Thai Nguyen University shared: “For universities, I believe that promoting scientific research will help improve the quality of education. It will also strengthen the connection between theory and practice, linking teaching with research and giving students more opportunities to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.”
Despite existing advantages and achievements, the “three-way partnership” still faces challenges. Experts and managers say that although the partnership has been established, it is not yet truly sustainable. Research projects driven by market and business demand remain limited, while large-scale and strategic science and technology projects in key sectors are still few.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Deputy Director of the Thai Nguyen Department of Science and Technology stated: In the coming period, the Department of Science and Technology will advise the province on focusing resources to address emerging challenges, develop key products and strategic technologies, and effectively strengthen cooperation among the government, businesses and universities.
Overall, with an increasingly supportive policy framework and cooperation models being tested, Thai Nguyen is gradually building the “three-way partnership” as an important pillar of the local economy.
With stronger mechanisms, established institutions and deeper market participation, the key now is to implement these initiatives quickly and effectively, turning potential into real growth. If successful, the “three-way partnership” will go beyond a cooperation model and become a driving force for the local economy.
