Thai Nguyen launches tree planting festival - spring 2026

On the morning of February 23, at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Stadium (Dai Phuc Commune), Thai Nguyen Province held a ceremony to launch the tree planting festival - spring 2026. Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, attended the event.

On the morning of the first day of 1960 Lunar New Year, President Ho Chi Minh planted a banyan tree at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi, officially launching the “Tree Planting Festival” with the view that “Spring is the Tree Planting Festival, making the country ever more prosperous and green” and “this activity costs little but brings great benefits.”

Since then, the Tree Planting Festival has not only become an annual activity every spring but also a cultural tradition and a meaningful long-term contribution to national development.

In Thai Nguyen, the early spring tree-planting movement has become a distinctive cultural practice throughout the province.

The forest coverage rate has now exceeded 61%; since 2021, the province has planted more than 20 million trees. Amid increasingly complex natural disasters, planting and protecting forests has become even more urgent. At the ceremony, delegates and residents planted 200 camphor trees at the Provincial Stadium.

The Tree Planting Festival was also held simultaneously in 92 communes and wards in the province, with more than 27,000 trees of various species planted during the event.
