At the meeting, the Vice Chairman said that in recent years, Thai Nguyen has been heavily affected by natural disasters. In 2025 alone, floods inundated 43 communes and wards, impacting around 200,000 households. More recently, thunderstorms, strong winds and hailstorms continued to cause significant damage to property and agricultural production. The Vice Chairman expressed his hope to continue receiving support and cooperation facilitation from the Australian Government and UNDP in areas such as climate change adaptation, disaster prevention for residents living along the Cau River, carbon credit development, investment attraction into industrial zones, and the development of the province’s tea industry.

Ms. Renee Deschamps said she was pleased to visit Thai Nguyen for the first time and highly appreciated the close coordination among the parties in supporting recovery efforts following the 2025 storm.

Within the programme framework, the delegation presented a non-refundable grant to implement the project titled “Emergency Response and Inclusive Early Recovery after Storm No. 10 and Storm No. 11 in 2025” in Thai Nguyen Province, with a total budget of VND 6.5 billion, scheduled for implementation in 2026.

On this occasion, the delegation attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate an emergency response and early recovery facility following the impacts of Storm No. 10 and Storm No. 11 in 2025 in Dong Hy Commune, supported by UNDP.
