Amid forecasts that consumer demand during the coming Lunar New Year 2026 will rise by 10-15 percent, the Thai Nguyen provincial industry and trade sector is implementing a range of coordinated measures to ensure adequate supplies of essential goods and services for residents.

At this time, stalls at Thai Market are becoming increasingly busy as the traditional Lunar New Year approaches. About one month earlier, many traders had already stocked up on goods to ensure sufficient supply and stable prices for consumers. Except for slight price increases in a few items such as mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and vermicelli, most prices have remained unchanged.

Ms. Le Thi Thom, a trader at Thai Market, shared: “During Tet, people tend to use a lot of bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, and wood ear mushrooms, so I stock more of these items”.

Ms. Pham Thu Huong, a teacher at Nui Voi Kindergarten, said: I’m shopping for items to decorate the classroom for the kindergarten children. This year, I find the designs attractive and prices still stable”.

In addition to traditional markets, supermarkets and shopping centers have also recorded a slight increase in customer numbers. Many retail businesses have proactively increased their supplies, extended operating hours, and introduced promotional and discount programs to stimulate consumer spending. Hoang Mam Supermarket in Phan Dinh Phung Ward has stocked nearly 10 billion VND worth of Tet goods to serve customers.

“We work with suppliers to offer discount rates. At the same time, we introduce value-for-money combos and gift sets so consumers can more easily access products", Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Deputy Executive Director of Hoang Mam Supermarket, said.

Implementing provincial directives, the Department of Industry and Trade has proactively monitored and assessed supply and demand, especially for essential goods, in order to balance the market and stabilize prices, preventing shortages or supply disruptions that could cause sudden price hikes. A range of trade and consumer promotion programs and events is being organized and planned by the province to boost production, business activities, and year-end shopping.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Deputy Director of the Thai Nguyen Department of Industry and Trade, informed: “Our assessment shows that consumer purchasing power during the 2026 Lunar New Year period will increase slightly by 10-15 percent. In December 2025, we issued directives requesting businesses in the province to focus on essential goods. At the same time, we strengthened guidance for the Market Management Sub-department to control product origins and prices”.

Ensuring a balance between supply and demand and maintaining price stability not only contributes to achieving inflation control and social security objectives, but also creates an important foundation for stable and sustainable market development in the time ahead.
