Canadian Embassy in Vietnam visits and works with Thai Nguyen University 

Continuing the program in Thai Nguyen, on the afternoon of October 16, the delegation from the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam, led by Mr. Shawn Steil, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Vietnam, visited and held discussions with Thai Nguyen University (TNU).

In the welcoming speech of Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Van Hung, Director of TNU, he expressed his joy and gratitude for the visit and working session by the Canadian Embassy delegation. Giving an overview of TNU, he stated that TNU currently has nearly 80,000 students and learners, of which ethnic minority students account for 33 percent. Throughout its development, TNU has continuously focused on building an advanced training and research environment that can meet the demands and challenges of the modern era.

Every year, TNU supplies many young, dynamic, creative, and enthusiastic human resources to meet domestic and international labour demands. TNU aspires to enhance educational cooperation with foreign partners, especially Canada's partners.

In an open and friendly atmosphere, the leaders of TNU and Ambassador Shawn Steil shared common concerns and proposed cooperation connections. These included suggestions for Canadian scholarships for TNU's staff, lecturers, and students and increasing faculty and student exchanges between the two sides.

Agreeing with the proposals made by TNU's leadership, Ambassador Shawn Steil affirmed that he would pay more attention to these matters. He hoped that the cooperative relationship between Vietnam, in general, and TNU, in particular with Canada, would continue to grow stronger.

During this visit, Ambassador Shawn Steil and the delegation met and interacted with over 300 ethnic minority students at TNU. During the meeting, Ambassador Steil shared insights and addressed many questions from the students. Topics included the opportunities for Vietnamese students to receive scholarships in Canada, especially for ethnic minority students; Canada's support policies for Vietnamese minority students studying abroad; and the study and research environment at Canadian universities.
