Preserving traditional bamboo and rattan craft in Thu Lam village

Thu Lam is an ancient village with four hamlets in Tien Phong commune (Tien Phong Ward, Pho Yen City). The people of Thu Lam village have maintained their traditional way of life and craft. The bamboo and rattan traditional craft has been renowned inside and outside the province for a long time. In 2009, Thu Lam was officially recognized as a traditional craft village. Despite facing challenges such as a shortage of young labor and unstable product outlets, the bamboo and rattan traditional craft remains vibrant in Thu Lam.

There are around 100 families in Thu Lam, with over 300 individuals engaged in the bamboo and rattan traditional craft, producing a diverse range of products.

Mr. Ta Van Vinh, a highly skilled and reputable artisan, continues to diligently pass down the craft to his children and grandchildren in the village.

Before 2016, there was quite a frequent demand for large orders, but in recent times, such substantial orders have become scarce. As a result, the villagers take advantage of their leisure time to knit bamboo and rattan to sell to merchants. What the villagers desire the most is support in connecting with customers to ensure a steady market for their products.
