Enhancing investment cooperation between Thai Nguyen and Gyeongsangbuk-do (South Korea)

On August 11, the delegation led by Ms Lee Dal Hee, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do province (South Korea) paid a working visit to Thai Nguyen province. Ms Nguyen Thanh Hai, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee, and Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation of the province, expressed her joy and emphasized that the visit contributes to strengthening the friendly relations and investment cooperation between the two provinces.

The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee reiterated the long-term relationship between Thai Nguyen and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province for the past 18 years. Currently, Thai Nguyen has three localities that have established cooperation with three localities of Gyeongsangbuk-do province. The Provincial Police of Thai Nguyen has signed a cooperation agreement with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Police Department.

In education and training cooperation, Thai Nguyen province has five secondary and high schools cooperating with schools in Gyeongsangbuk-do province. Thai Nguyen University of Education has established friendly collaboration with Daegu University of Education in Daegu City, Gyeongsangbuk-do province.

From 2005 to now, many collaborative programs for building new rural areas and Saemaul villages have been implemented in coordination between Gyeongsangbuk-do province, the Saemaul Globalization Foundation of South Korea, and Thai Nguyen province. Thai Nguyen is also one of the production hubs for major investors from South Korea, such as Samsung Group, Dongwha Enterprise, and Hansol Electronics. 

Currently, there are 191 active FDI projects in the province with a total registered capital exceeding 10.5 billion USD, including 114 projects invested by South Korean enterprises, with a total investment capital of 8.76 billion USD.

Ms Nguyen Thanh Hai affirmed that Thai Nguyen always creates the most favorable conditions for investors and those from South Korea, including investors from Gyeongsangbuk-do province. She proposed that the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial authority facilitate the participation of units and localities from Thai Nguyen Province in trade promotion programs in the South Korean market and Gyeongsangbuk-do province.

With the long-term friendship and active support from the governments of both countries and the business community, she believed that the cooperation relationship between the two localities would continue to develop in terms of quality, efficiency, and depth.

Speaking at the working session, Ms Lee Dal Hee, Vice Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do province, thanked the Thai Nguyen leader’s warm welcome. She noted that this visit allows Gyeongsangbuk-do province to broaden investment cooperation with Thai Nguyen in various fields such as semiconductor technology, education, and training, thereby fostering future growth in trade and investment.

At the working session, delegates exchanged views on various mutual concerns, including enhancing investment cooperation, promoting study opportunities in South Korea, teaching the Korean language in Thai Nguyen, labor training, and expanding collaboration in rural development.
