According to the Digital Economy in Vietnam 2023 report, Thai Nguyen ranked the 2nd province and cities nationwide on the share of digital economy in the provincial output, gaining about 42.92 percent. The province topped 5 biggest-scale provinces and cities nationwide in the digital economy (Information technologies and communication services).

The province currently has 5,079 businesses, including 324 digital technology enterprises. It is estimated that the total digital economy revenue in 2023 will reach around 815 trillion VND (equivalent to 33.1 billion USD), with an estimated 780 trillion VND from producing electronic products, computers, and other related items. The development of e-commerce has achieved noteworthy results, with over 2,700 products updated on the province's e-commerce platform and 72 agricultural products listed on platforms like Postmart and voso.vn. This indicates that the province's digital technology sector is a significant driving force for socio-economic development.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, Thai Nguyen's digital economy is ranked 15th out of 63 provinces and cities. The provincial planning for the period 2021-2030, towards 2050, identifies a key breakthrough as the promotion of digital transformation, the establishment of a digital government, and the development of a digital economy and society.
