The import-export turnover of goods in Thai Nguyen province in April 2023 reached 4 billion USD, an increase of 9.34 percent compared to the previous month but decreased by 24.72 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

In the first four months of 2023, the export of steel products in the province reached 12.2 million USD. In the photo: Import-export activities of steel billets at Thai Hung Trading Joint Stock Company.

Overall, in the first four months of 2023, the import-export turnover of goods in the province reached approximately 15.5 billion USD, a decrease of 19.3 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

According to data from the Thai Nguyen Statistics Office, 2023 is the year with the most profound decrease in import-export turnover in the first four months compared to the same period in the past five years. However, this is also the year with the third highest trade surplus value, reaching nearly 4.1 billion USD (after 2019 and 2022, with trade surplus values of 4.6 billion USD and 4.2 billion USD, respectively).

The sharp decrease in import-export turnover is due to the slow recovery of the global economy, the tightening of monetary policies in many leading countries, and the high price of raw materials. Therefore, the import-export turnover of goods in the province in the first four months of 2023 has yet to meet expectations.
