The festival is held annually on the 4th day of the first lunar month to commemorate and express gratitude for the contributions of Luu Nhan Chu. Historical records show that Luu Nhan Chu, a native of Van Phu Commune, was one of the 18 figures who, together with Le Loi, established the Lung Nhai Oath in 1416.
After the Lung Nhai Oath, he returned to Van Mountain – Vo Mountain with his father and his brother-in-law to recruit troops and train forces, making significant contributions to the victory against the Ming invaders.
In remembrance of the merits and virtues of Luu Nhan Chu, every year on the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, the people of Van Mountain and Vo Mountain hold the festival as a tribute from later generations to their ancestors.
On the opening day, the ritual procession, represented by the Luu family lineage along with the local Party Committee and authorities, organized ceremonial processions, offered incense, and presented commemorative texts, recalling the patriotic tradition and heroic spirit of the nation. At the same time, they reported the achievements in the renewal process and local development to their ancestors and predecessors.
Alongside the ceremonial activities, the festive section featured vibrant traditional folk games and diverse cultural and artistic performances, contributing to a joyful atmosphere, solidarity, and community cohesion.
In 2023, the Van Mountain – Vo Mountain Festival was officially inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
