In recent years, many students in Thai Nguyen province have taken part in English proficiency tests by themselves at units authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training. However, the percentage of high school graduates from IELTS 4.0 up or English international certificates equivalent is still low (only 1.68 per cent of 12th-grade students in the province was be reached in 2021). Especially, this rate is 0 per cent in disadvantaged areas.
The Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Council has just issued a Resolution stipulating some particular support policies to encourage learners to improve English proficiency.
Accordingly, all high school students in public and non-public schools managed by the province are supported by exam fees when they have an English international certificate. Significantly, the province will support all exam fees for students in difficult socio-economic areas, poor households, near-poor households, children of war invalids and martyrs from IELTS 4.0 up or international English certificates equivalent.
This support policy will help reduce the economic burden on students' families, create motivation for students who are under the policy or in disadvantaged areas to excel in learning, especially in English subject.
