Opening Ceremony: Conference on display and performance of the 4th ASEAN traditional textiles

16 March evening, at the Museum of the Culture of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups, Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism coordinated with the People’s Committee of Thai Nguyen province in hosting the opening ceremony, Conference on display and performance of the 4th ASEAN traditional textiles with the title of “Traditions, Innovations and Interactions: Paving a Creative Path for Traditional Textiles of Southeast Asia”. Attending at the ceremony are Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phach, member of the Central Party, Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee Secretary; Ms. Dang Thi Bich Lien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism, Chairman of the Steering Committee; Mr. Duong Ngoc Long, Deputy Provincial Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the provincial People’s committee; Ma Thi Nguyet, member of Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee; representatives of ASEAN fund, and ASEAN Traditional Textile Arts Community.

The event took place from 15 March to 18 March, with the participation of nearly 200 craftsmen, designers, weaving, embroidery and dying producers coming from ASEAN; five dialogists along with the participation of 9 provinces and cities of Vietnam. This is a practical activity, for the purpose of protecting and promoting heritage value of textile industry and enhancing cultural and economic exchanges in the region, promoting traditional culture values, current development steps of traditional weaving, embroidery and dying of ASEAN countries. This symposium is also a big chance for scientists, producers, designers, craftsmen and traditional weaving, embroidery and dying villages to connect, expand the cooperation, develop material region, and develop product values crystallized from the culture of every nations.

 

In four days, activities of the symposium would take place with five key themes: Scientific seminar; exhibition of traditional and modern weaving, embroidery and dying products; Demonstration of Vietnamese trade villages and their cultures; Fashion gala; ASEAN countries’ weaving products fair.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Dang Thi Bich Lien and Mr. Duong Ngoc Long showed their pleasure and deep thank to receive representatives of countries, international organizations, and domestic units for their combination and participation in the event. They also emphasized that: This event is an occasion for the conservation and promotion of precious values of textile and dying, which helps to maintain every nation’s typical cultural characters and enhance the integration, cooperation and solidarity for common development among ASEAN countries.
