Thai Nguyen University opens most modern Learning Resource Center in Vietnam

On November 21st 2007, Thai Nguyen University held a ceremony to officially run the Learning Resource Center (LRC) which was built with the total investment of more than 7,250 thousand USD funded by the AP Foundation through the East Meet West Foundation (EMW).

Attending the ceremony were Ms. Phan Truc Quynh, representative of the AP Foundation; Mr. Ronald Smith, representative of the EMW; Mr. Terry Mcnicol from the RIMT University in Vietnam as well as leaders from Hue University, Da Nang University, Can Tho University, Thai Nguyen University and some Thai Nguyen provincial authorities.

The LRC of Thai Nguyen University is a new style of library and information service, with the most modern equipment and facilities in Vietnam. Its function is to support the research, teaching and learning activities of staff and students of Thai Nguyen University as well as the local community. It has a variety of up-to-date information resources and new equipment. The building contains multi-media labs, seminar room, auditorium with 240 seats equipped with a modern video conferencing and projection system, a system of 300 computers with high-speed internet connection, offices, cafeteria, and training facilities.

At present, the center is home for more than 50,000 book titles, 20 databases containing more than 100,000 articles as well as newspapers, magazine, periodicals and reference collections for 85 subjects of Thai Nguyen University. Besides, the center provides multimedia collections such as DVD and CD-ROMs, especially ones for visually impaired patrons.

Addressing at the opening ceremony, representatives of funding organizations highly expected that the university will take full advantage of the LRC to improve the training quality as well as pay attention to maintenance of the LRC for long-term advantages.
